RAWANG: There were no water cuts in the latest odour pollution incident at Sungai Selangor.

State Environment, Green Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said only about 20 to 30% of consumers who were located on higher ground were affected by low water pressure.

“The water treatment plants have resumed operations and the water pressure will return to normal beginning 3pm. By midnight, the water supply should return to normal, ” he said after visiting the catfish farm suspected of being the source of the pollution.

Hee alleged that a discharge from one of the 57 catfish ponds belonging to a company went straight into Sungai Selangor.

Earlier, there was a confusion among consumers whether the latest raw water pollution incident at Sungai Selangor would affect their water supply.

It was reported that the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant stopped operations at 11.30pm Monday (Dec 7), while Phases 1,2 and 3 of the Sungai Selangor water treatment plants had to stop at 1am Tuesday (Dec 8) after recording readings of 4 TON (threshold odour number).

Air Selangor had said the halt in operations caused unscheduled water cuts in 1,274 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.
