PETALING JAYA: Chan Jie (pic) came within a whisker of securing an Olympic qualification time at the Swimming World Cup in Singapore.
The 23-year-old swimmer clocked a personal best 53.56 to finish sixth in the men’s 100m butterfly final yesterday.
The Olympic qualification time for the event was 53.52, which would have put him on the ranking list of swimmers to be in the running for the Tokyo Games next year.
He has another shot at beating the qualifying time if he gets in the squad for the Philippines SEA Games in November.
