SEMPORNA, April 22 (Bernama) -- More than 50,000 people are expected to attend the 26th Regatta Lepa celebration which takes place here from April 26 to 27.
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong said the celebration this year would be more lively, with over 2,000 'Sambulayang' (sails in multi-colours) installed on both sides of the road for about 20 km from the Kunak-Semporna roundabout to Semporna town.
"The sambulayang symbolises the excitement of the Regatta celebration this time, and it is the initiative of the people in this area.
"It also shows that the people of Semporna are ready to welcome Regatta Lepa which is an annual event, and of course people from other districts, such as Kota Kinabalu, even from Peninsular Malaysia will come here," he said.
Jaujan, who is also the Sabah Minister of Local Government and Housing and Sulabayan assemblyman, was speaking to reporters after visiting the Regatta Lepa launch site in Padang Semporna here, today.
The Regatta Lepa is scheduled to be officiated by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Shafie Apdal, while Sabah State President Tun Juhar Mahiruddin will be attending as the guest of honour.
