KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) network of airports including Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (ISG) International Airport recorded a 7.5 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth to 12.7million passengers in August 2019.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, the airport operator said international passenger movements recorded 6.0 million passengers with a YoY increase of 7.0 per cent, while domestic passenger movements grew 7.9 per cent after posting 6.6 million passengers during the period.
On a last-twelve-month basis, the total MAHB network of airports registered 4.1 per cent growth with 137.5 million passengers, the highest passengers handled by the network of airports.
Overall aircraft movements in August 2019 increased 4.5 per cent, with international and domestic aircraft movements registered an increase of 4.9 per cent and 4.3 per cent, respectively.
Meanwhile, Airports in Malaysia registered 9.2 million passenger movements in August 2019, recording 9.2 per cent YoY growth over August 2018.
International and domestic sectors recorded 4.6 million and 4.7 million passengers with 4.0 per cent and 14.8 per cent growth respectively.
International passenger movements for Asean and non-Asean destinations grew 3.1 per cent and 4.9 per cent to 2.2 million and 2.4 million passengers, respectively.
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) passenger movements recorded a 6.7 per cent increase in August 2019 with 5.4 million passenger movements.
Asean and non-Asean sectors grew 4.5 per cent and 4.3 per cent during the period, while domestic passenger movements registered a 12.7 per cent growth.
August passenger movements for KLIA main terminal and second terminal klia2 increased 4.7 per cent and 8.5 per cent, respectively.
ISG’s passenger movements posted 3.1 per cent growth in August 2019 over the same period last year with 3.4 million passengers.
International passengers increased 17.5 per cent to 1.4 million passengers while domestic sector declined by 5.4 per cent with 2.0 million passengers.
MAHB said airports in Malaysia recorded 9.2 per cent growth with 9.2 million passengers in August 2019.
Meanwhile, it said the technical glitch to KLIA’s Total Airport Management System (TAMS) for a few days from 21st onwards did cause flight delays as well as inconveniences to airlines, passengers and public but there was hardly any material negative impact on demand for air travel.
