Malaysia’s Employees Provident Fund (EPF) yesterday issued a statement warning its members of a message circulating via Facebook and Whatsapp in regards to The Death Benefit that is provided by EPF.
According to the statement, the fake message is being shared together with a message claiming that EPF will pay a sum of RM5,000 to the deceased EPF account holder’s family that is claimable within a period of 2 months. The fake message further claims that this piece of information was never shared by EPF to its members.
EPF explained that The Death Benefit is in fact payment made by them to the deceased member’s dependent to help ease financial burden when Death Withdrawal is made. The amount given is RM2,500 and is subjected to several conditions. It is also emphasized that the payment comes from EPF’s investment earnings and not from member’s savings.
Members are urged to visit EPF’s website at www.kwsp.gov.my to obtain accurate information or to seek clarification regarding the matter.
