PETALING JAYA: The authorities arrested 315 people for violating rules under the recovery movement control order (MCO), 127 for not wearing face masks.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said compounds were issued to 312 of them for violating the standard operating procedures (SOP), with the remaining three remanded on Saturday.
He said the offences included engaging in activities that did not follow the SOP (38) and for activities held in large groups with no physical distancing (150).
He said the police-led task force, geared towards ensuring adherence to the SOP, conducted 63,473 inspections also on Saturday, with 14,327 personnel checking on public areas.
The public areas included supermarkets, restaurants and hawker areas, factories, banks and government offices.
Enforcement personnel also surveyed 1,132 land transportation hubs, 138 water transportation terminals and 40 air transportation terminals.
The minister said police set up 64 roadblocks and inspected 35,459 vehicles nationwide under Ops Benteng aimed at tightening border control and checking rat lanes.
Ismail Sabri also said that police acted against 28 people for failing to comply with mandatory home quarantine SOP, with 2,263 checks on those undergoing the 14-day quarantine.
From July 24 till Saturday, he said 4,286 people returned to Malaysia from other countries.
Of this, 13 were sent to hospital for treatment and others currently being quarantined in 16 hotels and five public training institute buildings.
Ismail Sabri said 10 Covid-19 sanitisation operations were conducted in nine zones – including one red and one yellow zone – in Sabah, Sarawak and Johor.
