KUALA LUMPUR: Some 30 people from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (PPBM) youth wing Armada, staged a protest in front of Parliament against recent remarks made by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's lineage.
Federal Territories Armada chief Zahin Zainal also questioned the actions of National Registration Department (JPN) Director-General Datuk Mohd Yazid Ramli, claiming the latter leaked personal information to obtain political gains.
"Ahmad Zahid claimed that the JPN Director General was responsible for leaking the copy of Tun Mahathir's blue identity card, where his name is stated as Mahathir A/L Iskandar Kutty.
"We question his actions. Where is the integrity of the JPN Director General?" Zahin told reporters when met outside Parliament today.
On Sunday, Ahmad Zahid announced the details of Mahathir's alleged identity card, which bore the name "Mahathir anak lelaki (son of) Iskandar Kutty", saying he had received it from Mohd Yazid.
Former Batu Kawan Umno division vice-chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan has since lodged a police report against Ahmad Zahid and Mohd Yazid, for allegedly leaking Mahathir's personal information.
Zahin also questioned whether both Ahmad Zahid and Mohd Yazid had committed an offense under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
"Sensitive data such as identification card number and address can lead to criminal activities such as kidnapping, fraud and harassment.
"And if Ahmad Zahid's statement is true, then the trust bestowed on him as the custodian of the personal information of all Malaysians has been betrayed," Zahin said.
