SEPANG – Vietnam’s Under 22 (U-22) football squad coach Nguyen Huu Thang is of the opinion that all teams in group B have an equal chance to advance to the semifinals of the football competition at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
He said that although they would faced stiff competition from Indonesia and defending champions Thailand in the preliminary round, he was confident that his Young Golden Stars were up to the task.
“I believe with the intensive training we had in South Korea prior to our arrival to Malaysia, I’m quite confident the players would put up a good show at the SEA Games,” he told reporters after the team’s arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here, today.
Nguyen said the squad had undergone two-week intensive training besides playing two friendly matches in South Korea against two local sides, Mokpo City FC on Aug 5 and also K-League Challenge side Busan FC, four days later.
Vietnam have been drawn in Group B alongside Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Timor-Leste.
They will open their campaign against Timor-Leste at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium on Aug 15.
