KUALA LUMPUR: Major preparations for the 2017 Negaraku Expo are wrapping up as the month-long exhibition prepares to open on Wednesday.

Held at Dataran Merdeka until Dec 15, the Expo will exhibit the latest and upcoming infrastructural developments in the country.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the event will showcase the government’s plans for improving the lives of Malaysians.

“The 2017 Negaraku Expo is part of our efforts to instil patriotism and love for the country, especially towards the development already achieved.

“We expect roughly 500,000 people to attend the Expo, held to highlight the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) to the people, so they know about developmental projects in the country as well as the function of the EPU, which has been working behind the scenes all this while,” he told Berita Harian.

Abdul Rahman said the event – which will cover more than 60 per cent of Dataran Merdeka with five domes that connect at the main entrance – is the biggest event of its kind in the country.

“The exhibition space is interactive and divided into infrastructure sectors like telecommunication, energy, transportation and more.

“Visitors are expected to take between 45 to 60 minutes to view the whole exhibition, which is suitable for people of all ages,” he said.

Members of the public will also be treated to light shows at the giant dome every night.

Weekly themes of the Expo include Health and Wellbeing; Our Taste; Culture and Tourism; Traditional Games; and Activities and Games.

Due to limited parking space, visitors to the Expo are encouraged to use public transportation.
